JAPAN Disneyland

Vivien Yap

Photo 13-3-18, 3 10 45 PM.jpg

Of course Disneyland was on our mind when we decided on Tokyo as our holiday destination! Especially now that Axl was old enough to appreciate the rides, recognize the various characters and hopefully retain some bits of his experience in this magical land that’s Disney.

His first major amusement park visit was to Everland in Korea. As much fun and enjoyable that was, I’m afraid his ticket money had gone down the drain for my then 1year old boy!!

Which brings me to my now 6 months old Alexa... yup, also kinda wasted money. 🤣 *BUT* I wouldn’t have it any other way, in fact, Baby Doll was needed there for our entertainment. And so that I could rub & warm my freezing cheeks against her chubby face every few seconds! Hehe...

Seriously though, I’ve never been one for overtly cutesy or kiddy stuff... but Disneyland goes beyond that and sparks a part of me that I never knew was alive! And sharing this experience with my kids made all the difference I think...

With its main theme being Frozen Fantasy for 2018, it was obvious Elsa and Anna ruled the land. Though the boys (Lucas & Axl. Left Gaby in school coz the adults were outnumbered. Sorry Gabe Gabe... love you!!) were unimpressed and definitely more interested in Toonstown and the rides.

Axl really enjoyed this Jungle Cruise ride in Adventureland. A water ride, he had fun pointing out and naming all the animals. Albeit unreal, they were quite life like (to a toddler 😅) and still got him wide eyed in anticipation. You could see him light up when his favourite herd of elephants made an appearance!

We also sat on the Western River Railroad ride - Alexa’s 1st train ride! Yay!

I must say, the 1st half of it wasn’t really interesting... but I was thankful for a break and it was in time for Alexa’s feed too. So it worked out well. Plus, the train went around Disneyland on elevated ground, so that got us some nice views for the latter part of the ride! It ended off going through a dark tunnel of Dinosaurs which Axl was excited about too. :)

A highlight that mesmerized us was definitely the Happiness Is Here Parade! Featuring Disney characters, cheerful music and themed parade floats... it got us all dancing along and simply H.A.P.P.Y! If you want a better view, do queue up early and chope your seats along the ‘street’. Pardon my picture quality as there was just no way the kiddos were gonna be patient enough to sit around doing nothing with all the excitement surrounding us.

After the parade, we went to Toonsworld, took a ride with Dumbo the Flying Elephant and walked around a bit. To be honest, we only managed 3 rides in all. We skipped many of them because they were not age appropriate or coz of their 60-90 minute wait time. I guess you just have to manage your expectations when traveling with kids. Coz before we knew it, the day had flew by so quickly and we decided to wind down with the kiddos and grab some snacks before leaving.

Though this Waffle Company was highly recommended by Michelle, we decided to give it miss after seeing its snaking queue. We settled on an alfresco cafe by the sidewalk that served not so yummy food.

But I must say, contentment and joy still flooded our hearts as we sat there enjoying the breeze and view. Yup, nothing could beat being fed fries by my toddler son and playing with a giggly Alexa, in front of the iconic castle on a cool crisp day... Bliss!

You won’t see the last of us, Disneyland! We’ll definitely be back again... til then, Sayonara! 😘

Sunshine Aquarium is Japan's first metropolitan high-rise aquarium. Be enchanted in this aquatic environment where you can experience an awakening of all your senses in the center of bustling Tokyo. One can get up-close, unwind and become one with nature... a place for people to connect with other living creatures in an atmosphere of learning and relaxation.

It’s actually my second time there; the 1st being around 8-9years ago when we only had Wayne with us. I remember being fascinated and impressed by their wide variety of interesting creatures. So I was super excited to bring the kiddos there!

WATERFRONT JOURNEY

You start at the Second Floor where you enter the Waterfront Journey to see a diverse range of living creatures, including fish, invertebrates, waterweeds, frogs, turtles and mammals from waterfronts of rivers, lakes, and coasts of the world.

OCEAN JOURNEY

The oceans cover about 70% of the Earth's surface. So you can imagine the countless fishes, mammals, and invertebrates such as corals, squids, and jellyfishes that live along the shore, in bays and deep in the open seas.... many of which are featured here.

I love how it feels when you are in the Ocean Journey, it’s as if you are walking on the ocean floor. Be awed by the beautiful features like the Coral Reef Ocean, Mysterious Creatures section, Cave Flowers, Dance of the Oriental Butterflyfish, Jellyfish Tunnel, Ninja of the Sea, etc etc...

Less you think you’re done, do not leave Sunshine Aquarium before you visit their outdoor Marine Garden, where the sky, light, water and greenery all come together for you to experience. Here, you see both Penguins in the Sky exhibit and in their natural(recreated) habitat at the ‘Penguins in the Grassland’ exhibit.

Be enthralled by the majestic Sea Lions swimming gracefully around you in the Sunshine Aqua Ring. There is also a Performance Stage where they hold impressive Otter Greeting shows and Sea Lion performances which allows you to be up close and personal with these cuties!

Not forgetting Pelicans Feeding where you see these beautiful creatures opening their gular pouch in a powerful display to eat their prey right above you in the Sky's water tank. A spectacular sight!

6 Months Old, Baby! 🎉

Vivien Yap

LOVELY PERSONALIZED ROMPER : @bbprojectsg

LOVELY PERSONALIZED ROMPER : @bbprojectsg

Dearest Alexa,

To say that these 6months went by in a blink of an eye wouldn’t be true... With you, I knew how fast time would fly by and how I would look back one day and miss all your babyness and realize that this infancy would be gone forever. So I slowed down and told myself to enjoy every precious moment with you the last 6months. I consciously chose YOU and would do it again a thousand times over if I had to... 😭 (hopeless mummy’s shirt is all wet from tears already by this 1st paragraph...)

Of course, being second time parents, it came with the experience and a confidence of what to expect, so it was easier to handle motherhood this time around. But I’ve also heard otherwise where 2kids is super challenging and all the horror stories that came with it.

Mummy and Daddy had always knew and said aloud that we would stop at 2 kids... But after having you and Axl, I find myself toying with the idea of having a third and kinda don’t feel ‘done’. 😅

(Daddy if you’re reading this, “breathe... don’t freak out... remember to breathe”) haha

(To Mummies out there, did you ‘know’ or had that clear ‘feeling you were done’ when you had your kids? Or was it more of a choice? )

So I feel kudos goes to you, baby Lexie, for being so awesome all around.... You make me love motherhood so much and feel that I might just be capable enough to handle another. But I know God has great plans for our family and will direct our paths. ❤️

Here’s archiving your 6 months journey and milestones.

IMG_2180.JPG

1st Month (2.56kg 49cm)

Your very 1st night back home with us, you cried every hour. Think it was coz you were hungry and mummy’s supply (which looked promising initially at the hospital) wasn’t meeting your demand. Plus there were some latching problems that caused my nipples to bleed badly... you scared the daylights out of me during a feed when I realized you were drinking fresh blood. :(

So we took a week’s break and bottle fed you with formula while I pumped rigorously to work on increasing my supply(15mins each side every 2hrly) and letting me heal too.

I was so nervous before we tried latching again and was praying hard that the problem wouldn’t occur again and you wouldn’t reject me after drinking from the bottle! Thankfully, you didn’t and our breastfeeding journey is going strong at 6months!

Your umbilical cord dropped off on 17 Oct 2017, exactly one week after birth. (Note to self: I kept it in the trio of Tiffany blue decor luggage)

You are super sharp and able to hold your gaze really well with the person talking to you.

IMG_2172.JPG

2nd Month (3.63kg 49.5cm)

You’ve started making sounds to get our attention and want to be carried! Plus you’re preferring to be carried in a more upright position.

You had a case of bad diaper rash and we had to see doc a couple of times for that. Doc suspected it’s coz of the antibiotics I took after delivering you through c-sec.

IMG_2179.JPG

3rd Month (4.92kg 55cm)

At this point, I would say you’re drinking very very well! So well that you’ve doubled your birth weight already and your chubbiness is evident. Needless to say, Doctor Tan and your momma + papa are very happy!

Your eyes follow objects side to side well. We see you responding and smiling much much more now. You’ve even started ‘talking back’ to us with your cute coos...

You're also super strong and keep lifting up your head and wanting to sit up.

IMG_2173.PNG
IMG_2174.JPG

4th Month (5.89kg 56.5kg)

Started to self soothe and put your fingers into your mouth. And play with your saliva too!

In fact, you’re exploring your fingers a lot.. and can grab a toy for a few seconds before dropping it. Oh.. One thing you like to do is to grab your bib and pull at it!

You hate tummy time though your neck and back is much stronger now. So with support, you can sit.

Your poop is also lesser at this point. The 1st 3months, EVERY diaper change came with yellow seedy poop. And we changed 2-3hrly some more! I blame the antibiotics I took for messing up your gut...

FullSizeRender.jpg
1ST DAY IN ‘SCHOOL’

1ST DAY IN ‘SCHOOL’

5th Month (6.82kg 58cm)

Ok, at this 5th month mark, you’re now lovingly coined Chubby Lil’ Cheeks by your Kor Kor and me! And our favourite past time is munching on them every chance we get!!!

You love putting things into your mouth can grip really well, started holding your legs and can lift your chest up during tummy time. You’re a regular on the bumbu too!

I really love it when you excitedly flail your arms about when you see me and and melt away my tiredness from the day!

Your giggle trigger is a big sneezy ‘Ah Choo’!

At the latter part of your 5th month, you took your 1st overseas trip to Japan to visit your Da Yi (eldest Aunt) in Tokyo!! You were an angel on the flight! (Read more HERE)

1ST OVERSEAS TRIP TO JAPAN TOKYO!

1ST OVERSEAS TRIP TO JAPAN TOKYO!

6th Month (7.27kg 59cm)

While in Japan, your giggle trigger was when Kor Kor Axl went “I say I say...” repeatedly to your face. This morning, it was a series of words (names of Paw Patrol, silly words, etc) he said loudly and staccato-ly. Your adoration for your affectionate brother is really evident now and the look you have for him is so so special. It never fails to warm my heart.

Another milestone in Japan was on 17 March 2018 when you sat without support for a few seconds! Woohoo... Well done baby!!

We also started you on these solids mummy painstaking pureed myself. (For those who want to know more on preparing purée for baby food, read my previous post HERE).

Carrot 20180321. Cereal 20180324. Potato 20180329. Pumpkin 20180405. Teethg Rusk 20180408.

You’re super cute and always like to hold your legs up. Plus really clever too and able to put your hand on our palm for a High5. Just 2 nights ago, I was delighted to realize you could do ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ by opening and closing your hands too!!!

Looking forward to more tricks you have up your lil sleeves, doll! Thank you for all the joy and blessing that you are to our little Sim family! We love you higher than the mountains and deeper than the seas!

Xoxo, Mummy 💋

Ultraformer Review

Vivien Yap

IMAGE.JPG

Back for my annual aesthetic treatment... Yup, these days, all I need (or more honestly, have time for) are my daily skincare routine, an occasional mask and some help from an aesthetic expert like Dr Chua at Veritas Medical Aesthetics to maintain my skin.

After sharing my concerns and evaluating my face, I was recommended Ultraformer for skin tightening and improving fine lines. It is also good for pores, wrinkles, v-line forming, jowl line, cheek and skin tone improvement too.

FullSizeRender.jpg

Dr Chua patiently explained that Ultraformer uses HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) energy to target pre—determined depths below the skin surface and causes skin tightening and lifting by triggering extensive collagen synthesis.

The first round of ultrasound shots targets the top 1.5mm of your skin which is the Superficial Dermis. Then he works on the Deep Dermis which is around 3.0mm into your skin. And lastly, 4.5mm of your SMAS (Superficial Musculo-aponeurotic System), which is the same tissue layer which plastic surgeons target in a face lift.

Thus the results are not just what you see superficially but they last longer as the inner layers of your skin are tightened too.

One of the top most concerns I had, was of course whether it would be painful. But Dr Chua assured me that though discomfort levels vary from person to person, most patients tolerate the procedure well without anesthesia or sedation. After the procedure, patients might feel a little achy on the jawline and slight swelling.

But there would be no downtime and I’d be able to go back to work immediately after as Ultraformer mainly targets the under layers of skin.

FullSizeRender.jpg

I was glad that Dr Chua shared my sentiments to go back and think it through before I booked the treatment date. Really thankful he was not pushy about it...

This gave me time to process all the information and research more on the procedure recommended. Which was really important to me... to understand what I was getting myself into.

FullSizeRender.jpg
IMAGE.JPG

Walking into the clinic on the actual day, their jovial receptionist and clinic assistant put me at total ease as I registered and prepared for the procedure. Even going as far as to introducing me the Ultraformer machine and its functions.

IMAGE.JPG
IMAGE.JPG

They applied a layer of anesthetic cream and I had to wait 30mins for it to take effect before the procedure.

Dr Chua walked me through the whole process again and also kept me informed along the way of his actions. As the Ultraformer uses Ultrasound Shots to deliver the treatment, I’d say it’s really similar to doing an IPL treatment.

The discomfort level rose when it penetrated into the deeper layers of the skin and the bony areas like the jawline or cheekbones. But overall, nothing unbearable. Dr Chua would also constantly check with me if it was ok and that was really assuring.

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

He was really generous with the shots and went over the problematic spots a few times as he stressed it was important to him that I see the desired results of the treatment.

Before I knew it, it was done and examining my face closely, you really can’t tell I went through an aesthetic treatment! Perfect for those lunch time kind of face treatment as I lightly touched up and strutted right out of the clinic that day.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT

As collagen regeneration generally takes 30 to 90 days, ideal results comes from 60 to 90days after the Ultraformer treatment.

True enough, 2months after the treatment now, i really love how my smile lines have reduced and jaw line sharpened.

Especially during my Japan trip where I put on some weight from all the yummy food but you couldn’t tell at all from my face! Haha...

Here are the details of the clinic if you’re interested in doing the Ultraformer treatment, do make an appointment for a no pressure consultation with Dr Chua!

We also visited the Akarenga Red Brick Warehouse by the Yokohama port. After releasing the boys and all their boundless energy through a good run by the Harbour, some boat sighting and taking in the lovely view of the Bay Bridge, we proceeded to the iconic historical brick building that is now used as a complex that includes a shopping mall, food hall, and event venue for art exhibitions, film festivals, musical competitions and plays.

While we were there, they had a remote control race car competition going on. So the boys were kept well entertained with the many leaps and crashes of the cars!

After all these, we made sure to head over to their Food Hall to pig out before leaving! I super loved their Caramelized Brown Sugar Butter Crepe... was so busy devouring it I didn’t manage to take a photo! It was a pity we didn’t have more time nor more stomachs to try all the yummy offerings there... haha!

Overall, Yokohama is a really nice place to chill and spend quality time with the family! I heard there’s much more to explore nearby like Cosmo World Amusement Park, Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, Ramen Museum, Landmark Tower etc... Looks like we need another trip soon just to explore all these! Hehe..

ZOORASIA

I love visiting the zoo when traveling to a foreign country to see their variety of interesting animals I’ve never seen before.

Located around 35mins from where we stayed in Tokyo, we drove to Yokohama for a fun day at one of the best zoo ever!

IMAGE.JPG

I was really impressed at how well kept and huge the whole zoo was. They had a wide variety of animals though I must say we’ve seen most of them before at our Singapore Zoo. But the awesome thing about their zoo is the use of glass in many of their exhibitions. This allows you to get really up close to the animals and see them so clearly rather than trying to spot them from far away.

JAPAN The Mother Farm

Vivien Yap

For our Tokyo trip itenary, we managed our expectations knowing that traveling with 2 kids in the cold weather, we couldn’t be as ambitious with our schedule and places we wanted to go. So we mainly worked our schedule around one main attraction for the kids and worked out our meals and some shopping in between along the way.

ANDDDDDDD.... We were so blessed to have Terry & Michelle (my sis) to bring us around! They took care of us so well and of course, knew all the best places to go. We also had the luxury of being driven all around. With a baby + 3 toddlers + 1001 things to bring out, combine that with the cold weather and stories of Tokyo’s super packed subway, luxury is an understatement... they were the reason we had such an enjoyable trip!

Here’s starting with some places I’d recommend to bring your kids in Japan!

(P/S: One of the priorities I set for myself was to be in the moment with my family and enjoy our moments together. And we took most of the pics on my IPhone X as we had too many things to bring out and left our camera at home. So these pics don’t do these places enough justice)

FullSizeRender.jpg

THE MOTHER FARM

Located about an hour drive from Tokyo and in Chiba, this is a flower and animal entertainment farm, this place is humongous with many sectors and lots to explore. A great place I’d highly recommend for the young and old too.

The kids squealed in delight at the Animal Petting Pasture where rabbits, guinea pigs, lambs, ducks, turtles roam free and you get to touch them. Have always wanted to try your hand at milking a cow? You can experience it here!

Also popular are their Sheep and Sheepdog Shows, sheep shearing, Piggy Race and Duck’s Parade.

You have the option of riding on their tractor train for a tour of the farm where the guide shares fun and interesting stories along the way and you can feed alpacas and sheep too.

Take Horse Riding lessons or simply feed the stable of horses with yummy carrots! And if you have pets with you, like our kids, they’d definitely appreciate the vast fields to run wild or roll around in! Haha...

Just something about the cool weather that made it so relaxing and enjoyable. The first 2 days when we arrived was so rainy and cold, but today with the sun shining gloriously made it simply perfect!

Axl got excited when he saw the Ferris Wheel peeking atop of the hill. But nothing could prepare him for the fun coming his way... a whole bunch of toddler rides and games at the Waku Waku Land & Amusement Park. IN. THE. MOTHER. FARM!

As we went during a schooling weekday, there weren’t many people around and we didn’t even have to queue for rides. We could take any rides we fancied over and over again. Ok, must pay money though... hahaha! Each ride was averagely 200-300yen(around sgd S$2.50), very affordable. More importantly, they’re toddler appropriate. Axl sat his 1st super mini rollercoaster on this dolphin water ride. Wheeeee!

The Mother Farm also boost spectacular valleys of seasonal flowers. During blooming season, enjoy strolling through flower walkways filled with sweet scents. Japanese apricot/flowering peach trees, hydrangea, narcissus and rapeseed flowers, they bloom during different seasons of the year.

Fruit picking of blueberries (late July to late August), kiwis (early to late November) and strawberries (mid Jan to late May) is available too!

P/s: Apply for entry through their website as they have a quota according to the estimated amount of harvest.

On top of the fresh air and many scenic views... Those seeking adrenaline, can try their Bungy Jump and a super fun Farm-zip too! That’s why I say this place is really perfect for the young, old and everyone in between! Haha...

If you’re there in July and August, you can camp overnight or rent their cottage that’s fully equipped with shower and kitchen facilities! How cool is that?!

Traveling with my babies!

Vivien Yap

FullSizeRender.jpg

Since being on maternity leave, I’ve only been back to work on some projects. And before I settled in and immersed myself full time back to work, I really wanted to take a trip overseas and just spend some quality time as a family!

We decided on Tokyo as the destination after seeing how much fun Axl had with his 2 cousins (who lives in Japan) when they came back to Singapore recently! Plus having been there before, we knew it’d be a place we’d all enjoy!

Despite the prior experience of traveling with Axl when he was around 3 months old (to Hongkong), I was still nervous about our flight as Alexa has a stronger personality and is going through a phase where she doesn’t like to sit down. Plus I had a baby AND a toddler to travel with now. 😅

Anyway how, we took a step of faith and for the baby, we prepped for our flight the best we could...

IMAGE.JPG

> Arranged for bassinet seats!

This was great as we could comfortably set her down after she fell asleep. Plus she happily played there with her ‘toys’ when she was not fussing. I cannot imagine if these seats were unavailable... that would mean 6hours in my arms!!!

> Timed baby’s feeds to take off and landings

To relieve air pressure, time your baby’s feeds to take off and landings. Remember to take out the breastfeeding cover or bottle+milk from your cabin bag before stowing it away.

But no worries if you missed the feed time, sucking on a pacifier or boob helps too. 😅

> Took turns for our meals!

Ask nicely for one of your meals to be served earlier if you’re traveling with the husband. That way, when the baby fusses, one of you can attend to your child. Trust me, there is just no space carrying a baby with the tray of food in front of you, or time to clear it out when a half screaming baby demands for your attention NOW.

IMAGE.JPG

> Bring their favorite ‘toy’ or ‘soother’

Even if you think it’s bulky or yet another item to add to your already bursting at seams cabin bag, you’ll be thankful when it calms your hysterical baby 35,000 feet up in the sky! Where your infant’s crying is magnified a thousand times over and all you have to ‘walk it out’ is the narrow aisle where you get side-eyed by the already annoyed passengers... haha ok I’m scaring you, it’s really not that bad!

Anyway, Alexa doesn’t take the pacifier(brought it anyway) so I had to rely heavily on her favorite monkey and her teething soothers. Thankfully, we didn’t really need it. Phew!

FullSizeRender.jpg

> Bring your own blanket and baby bean pillow

If you are a little OCD like me and are paranoid about where that airline blanket has been before or worry about what she lays her head on (most pillows are too high and unsuitable for infant), it’s better to bring your own so YOU stress less on flight.

For Alexa, I brought her bean bag pillow as well as she gets startled very easily in her sleep. Figured that she’ll need it through our 14day trip (yup we were away so long!) so might as well hand carry with us instead of dumping it into our luggage!

IMAGE.JPG
IMAGE.JPG

For Axl, we were not prepared when he freaked out a little just before stepping into the airplane. Think the sudden reality of him being in the aircraft so high in the sky got to him as he cried and repeated “I don’t want to sit aeroplane” half ventilating... poor baby! But it was nothing lots of hugs and kisses from mummy and a load of assurances couldn’t resolve. ;)

GRANDMA’S HOMEMADE MARBLE CAKE

GRANDMA’S HOMEMADE MARBLE CAKE

Anyway, we (*tried to, another topic for another day) make sure he had a good breakfast and was well fed before our morning flight. Plus prepared lots of his favourite snacks to munch on! We also made sure he sipped on water here and there during take of and landings (Again, remember to have his water bottle with you before stowing your bag away). Sucking on a lollipop works well too if you’re ok with it! 😬

Brought his favorite activities to play on flight too...

But if there’s a tip I’d recommend when traveling with a toddler, I’d say get a Plane Pal! This was the best thing ever for Axl. Especially if you’re traveling on a long flight...

SO UNCOMFY... POOR BABY!

SO UNCOMFY... POOR BABY!

On the flight to Japan, my heart broke when he fell asleep in such an uncomfortable position that was so bad for his posture. He couldn’t have a good nap and woke up constantly to re-adjust himself.

When the good people of Plane Pal heard about my trip, they kindly offered to send me a Plane Pal kit! I was super impressed by their spirit of excellence and can do attitude as they offered to send it all the way to Japan for me.

IMG_8388.JPG

Plane Pal is a custom designed inflatable cushion that fills the space between your child’s seat and the seat in front. The inflatable seat extender makes sitting comfortably or sleeping on a plane (train, car or bus) possible! Made from high quality nylon, it is light weight and compact and comes with a pump for stress free, easy inflation after take off.

It comes in an easy to carry bag when deflated and stylish to lug around!

HAPPY IS MUMMY WHEN BOTH BABIES ARE ASLEEP! 🤣

HAPPY IS MUMMY WHEN BOTH BABIES ARE ASLEEP! 🤣

Axl was super excited over his new ‘toy’ and felt so special to have his personalized throne! 😂

But seriously, it was most useful as he could sleep comfortably, lying down flat through most of the flight. (An immediate upgrade to Business Class lei! Haha...) But perhaps most telling was when he knocked out for 2 straight hours without barely flinching! I’m so adding this into my list of “must haves” for future travels especially on long flights!

(For more on Plane Pal, head over to www.planepal.sg for more information!)

PAMPERED WITH BOSE NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES!

To top of our flight encounter, God sent an angel when we met one of our air steward friend on flight who took care of us so well! Plus when he commented at the end of flight that my kids are so well behaved, I smiled silently knowing it was only by the grace of God!

Hope you have an awesome trip and that my tips are useful to you if you’re going overseas too...

More on my Japan trip soon! Stay tuned...

5 Fashion Secrets

Vivien Yap

Recently, I shared my 5 Fashion Secrets in an interview with Sample Store as one of their Fashion Influencers... Here are my simple tips and what I divulged!

1) Invest in quality Basic Pieces

"Every gal needs a basic tank top, camisole, comfy tee, etc... And when you do find that piece that fits perfect in cut and size, proceed to get it in white, nude, black. You get the idea! 😂

MY GO TO BASICS THAT I WEAR WITH EVERYTHING!!

MY GO TO BASICS THAT I WEAR WITH EVERYTHING!!

2) Shop when you Travel

"I love shopping and collecting pieces from my overseas travels! Especially their vintage or local boutiques... That way, you're guaranteed a unique style and chances of you bumping into people wearing your exact same outfit back home is slim!"

TULLE TOP FROM HONGKONG

TULLE TOP FROM HONGKONG

3) Buy only Statement pieces

"Don't buy yet another 'ordinary' piece to add to your bursting wardrobe collection. Buy only pieces that stands out to you. Think unique asymmetrical pieces or a piece that has a dramatic touch to it..."

IMG_4023.JPG

4) Have Fun with fashion

"Life is too boring to stick to one style! Don't be afraid to try on something that is outside of your usual style. I always say that you can carry off anything when worn with confidence!

This also includes experimenting with colours! Yup, as someone who's wardrobe is made up of 70% black or white pieces, I'm making a mental note to self too! Try on a pop of colour and you might surprise yourself!"

IMG_4006.JPG

5) Find a perfect Tailor

"Most of my best and favorite pieces in my wardrobe have gone through some sort of alteration or modification to fit well. I always bounce my ideas off my awesome tailor and she even suggests cheaper or easier alternatives to what I want to achieve!

So when you find that perfect tailor for your alterations, ideally be someone who is a possibility thinker and can offer creative solutions, treat him/her like your best friend!!!"

Axl: Hmmm... Dinosaur!

Ok, you don’t have many PJ Mask toys coz you’d always choose Paw Patrol over them. But I do catch you changing into your imaginary PJ Mask costume occasionally. Or you’d randomly say you’re Catboy and that I’m Owlet. 😂

* ANTICS *

- In general, you’ve adjusted really well to Alexa’s arrival and your new role as big brother. Though in this second month, you started having major melt downs when it’s your sleep time and wouldn’t allow me to breastfeed Alexa. Or when you wake up in the middle of the night and it coincides with Alexa’s feeding, you’d go hysterical and insist I put her down and lie down beside you instead...

- On a happier note and ending this post, you’re at this parroting stage and copies EVERYTHING KorKor or JieJie does. Which is super duper cute and never fail to bring on the laughs! 😂

Einmilk Formula

Vivien Yap

IMG_2713.JPG

[SPONSORED]

With the recent furore over the rising cost of infant formula, it got me thinking about the choice of formula brand we’ve been using for Axl.

To be honest, we chose it simply because it was the popular choice when we asked around our friends and family members. And like them, as with any good parent, we all want only the best for our precious baby. We had subconsciously adopted the mindset that since it is one of the more expensive brands, it must be very good for baby and ignored the steep rise in costs over the years. 😅

When I started looking around to educate myself more about the infant formulas around, I was introduced to a new formulated and made in Singapore brand of milk powder, Einmilk.

FullSizeRender.jpg

They recently launched a new range of formula milk powder to cater to the growing need for affordable, quality formula milk. Made from 100% fresh milk from New Zealand, it meets the manufacturing standards by Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) and is available in four formulations to provide essential nutrients at each stage of a child’s development:

• Stage 1 (0 to 6 months)

• Stage 2 (6 to 12 months)

• Stage 3 (12 months onwards)

• Lactose-Free (for babies and children of all ages who are lactose intolerant)

IMG_2715.JPG

Einmilk is manufactured by one of Asia’s leading Food Ingredient Blenders with operations in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), children as young as six months can start on solid foods to get the vital nutrients needed for healthy growth in addition to milk.

As parents and caregivers look at incorporating solids into their child’s diet, Einmilk brings value to families by providing the following essential nutrients like Calcium, Iron, Zinc and Vitamins. It’s ingredients list also includes Taurine, DHA & ARA, FOS, Nucleotides, Skimmed Milk Powder, Vegetable Oil Blend, Lactose, Demineralized Whey Powder, Whey Protein Concentrate Powder, Minerals and Vitamins. (For the full ingredient list, please visit: http://www.einmilk.com/products.php#our-ingredients)

Einmilk costs between S$19 and S$22 for a 400g tin and between S$33 and S$39 for an 800g tin, they are committed to provide quality at an affordable price.

I’m really thankful for the Stage 3 samples given, as one of my biggest concerns introducing a new formula to Axl when he has been so accustomed to the milk’s taste, was whether he would like it. But my fears were totally unfounded when I spied on him gulping down the entire bottle of Einmilk in no time! Yay!

Xmas 2017 w Fam!

(25.12.2017)

Christmas Day celebration - With yet another addition (thanks to my contribution) to the family, it feels like a bigger and bigger affair every year. Maybe it’s coz of the simple fact that instead of the 2hrs we needed to get everyone ready, prep time has now doubled and easily takes up half the day.

Or maybe it’s the rush of buying half a dozen presents and making sure we don’t miss out any of the kiddos... Anyhow, with all of us declaring the closure of our fertile ‘factories’, it seems this is as crazy as it’ll get.

This year, we finally learnt our lesson and lessened the amount of food. Kept it simple with a Ryan’s Grocery turkey, Morgansfield ribs, homemade garlic prawns and spaghetti bolognaise. Topped it off with a cheese platter (including some apricots, avacado dip) and durian log cake, and our tummies were extremely satisfied!

After dinner, we had a round of phototaking... We got through it mainly with a truckload of bribe and threats “Who wants presents, look here!” “Who’s not smiling won’t get presents!!” “Look here at camera” “Wave” “Say Cheese” etc etc..

We followed through with our actions after max-Ing out their attention span and rewarded their patience with wave after wave of presents. They sure happy la!

THE GAZZILLION PRESENTS FOR THEM!

THE GAZZILLION PRESENTS FOR THEM!

And finally the adults could carry on with our gift exchange. Here’s the chain for archive sake:

Dad > Rachel > Huahkai > Ken > Me > Mom > Mic > Elaine > Dad

To save time when drawing lots for the SECRET Santa gift exchange this year, we decided that we’ll allow it if we drew our spouse’s name. Big mistake...

You see... Every year, ‘most’ of the husbands in the family rely on their wives to purchase the Christmas presents la. Also, while we are not supposed to reveal who we’re supposed to get presents for, hints are often conspicuously dropped or the wives are coerced for opinions and we somehow end up getting the gifts on their behalf. Though I must say, they do ‘try’ and always resolute to change their ways.

This year, Rac and Ken drew their other half’s names. While she went with HK to purchase the item he wanted (supposed to be surprise lei!!!), I had to order MY own gift, wrap it MYSELF, paid for it using MY credit card and still haven’t gotten MY money back! 😭 But oh well, at least I got the exact gift I wanted... But next year, we’ll have to draw lots til the cows go home with no one drawing their own/spouse name k! 🙏🏻

For the BONUS GIFT this year, it went to.... (*drumroll*) Michelle Yap!! Wrapped in a decoy Royce packaging, the gift was revealed to be a Swarovski bracelet! 😍

Amanda is holding a special gift too, from winning a round of family Bingo! Good job, Gurl!!

Picnic @ Botanic Gardens!

Vivien Yap

(17.12.2017)

Last Sunday, we brought the kids for some sunshine and had a picnic at Botanic Gardens.

We started the day early at 8.30am to avoid the hot midday weather. Dabao-ed Economic Fried Beehoon with some very yummy but unhealthy sides of luncheon meat, sunny side ups, fish cutlets, chic wings and stir fried cabbage as our breakfast. Plus a pre-ordered carton of Starbucks coffee and we were all set!

We didn’t prep much in terms of the kids activities other than bring a ball (which entertained them for a long time), bubbles (always a good idea) and badminton rackets (for the adults!)... They played a game or two of hide and seek too! :)

It was a nice time of chillaxing the morning away and letting the kids have some outdoor time.

Left the place before noon after cooling off with some ice cream!!! Yay!

A Universal Christmas!

Vivien Yap

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

It’s barely been 2weeks since Mich, Terry and kids are back but we’ve already had so much fun and ‘excursions’!

When we heard about ‘A Universal Christmas’ at Universal Studios Singapore, we knew it was a must go and they didn’t disappoint...

The holiday season was on full throttle once we stepped into the magical land. From the interactive Santa’s Workshop, to upbeat songs from Oscar & our favourite Sesame Street friends and Puss In The Boots, every corner was filled with a fresh touch of Christmas surprise!

Our 1st stop was this stroller rental which proved to be worth every penny! The kids sat on them most of the times other than to queue for rides and watch performances. Rather than 5 kids on the loose, running all over the place in different directions, we gladly pushed these wheels around! Thereafter, it’s Starbucks for the adults to grab sustainance for the day....

We went on a weekend during holiday season, so it was a tad crowded with rides averaging 30-40mins wait time. So we mainly took 3-4 rides, posed for pics and ate/drank lots!

Axl freaked out a little on some of the rides and almost backed out at the last minute. But after lots of distraction and him clutching on to me like a hawk, he completed the rides without any tears or screams. He tried face painting too (see if you can spot the eagle), though he squirmed through it halfway. Thus explains the very incomplete, bald eagle.

But all in all, Axl had so so much fun with his cousins.

As for Alexa, this lil baby slept through most of the day. In fact, she was very much part of the entertainment of the day and kept the kids occupied in between, often fussing over her. Especially between her brother and sweet cousin Gabriel, they literally treat her like royalty... simply adoring her to bits, petting her, being her bodyguard and escorting her pram. 😂

FullSizeRender.jpg

We really wanted to stay late to catch their main Christmas highlight ‘Search for A Christmas Star’; an after-dark performance with aerial acrobatics, special effects, projection mapping and snowfall. So instead of the usual times where we started our day once the doors opened in the morning, we planned to start comfortably midday at 3pm. With the perfect weather on our side, it was a really good move as the kids were able to last through til night which ended perfectly with Santa’s sleigh parade!

Thank you so much Universal Studios Singapore for having us!!

If you’re looking to bask in some Christmas cheer, do head on to ‘A Universal Christmas’ before 1 January 2018!

AXL’S FAVE CHARACTER OF THE DAY WAS THIS LOVELY CANDY CANE GIRL!

AXL’S FAVE CHARACTER OF THE DAY WAS THIS LOVELY CANDY CANE GIRL!

Alexa’s Full Month #2

Vivien Yap

Alexa is one month old... We made it!!! (*major victory lap with lotsa 😭 of joy*)

Haha... seriously, we didn’t know what to expect with the addition of a second child. Would it be ten times crazier than the 1st experience?? Coz how do you handle a newborn with all those needs, when you already seem to have your hands full with your firstborn?

Or would it be a breeze coz of the experience you’ve had prior and better know what to expect with number 2?

For us, I must say it’s been the latter (thus far at least...).

Starting from my whole delivery experience (read about it here), to my confinement month. I remember when we had Axl, the first 3 days back home from the hospital I was like a mad/hysterical/crazy woman! Severely sleep deprived, stressed up to the max over the lack of milk supply, desperately trying to soothe a hungry baby to no avail, using the word ‘mad/hysterical/crazy’ is putting it mildly. In fact, I remember starting to feel relatively sane and normal only during the 3rd month! 😅

This time around, we grit our teeth through the 1st day and thereafter managed quite well, I must say. After some trial and error, and working out a routine that best caters to us, we determined to settle in fast. Maybe doing it more so for Axl, as we wanted him to have some stability in the midst of the many changes he had to deal with.

Crédit definitely goes to baby girl too... she has been really kind to me so far. Of course there are days where she cries or drinks very frequently (1.5hrly at times), or I feel like tearing my hair out, sleepless nights etc.But thankfully, she sleeps well and feeds(3hrly) consistently at nights. Generally, considered very good already la...

Anyway, we continued with Alexa’s Full Month party with our family members, some of my mummy and primary/Sec school friends at our place. We hoped it would be more comfortable for Alexa as she had been out the whole day yesterday and we didn’t want to overdo it.

So grateful to our dear family & friends were willing to travel over to the far west!! We always say that occasions are really a great ‘excuse’ for everyone to catch up with one another and spend some time together. Otherwise, it would be so easy to drift apart or get caught up in our own busy schedules.

Thank you for loving Alexa and our family and for being family! ❤️

Alexa’s Full Month #1

Vivien Yap

(11.11.2017)

We celebrated Alexa’s 1 month milestone recently and brought her to church for the 1st time too that week. We held a mini ‘party’ for her to meet all the wonderful zone members and precious friends before our Saturday service!

We wanted to keep it simple and I joked that it was really more of a party for Mummy to fellowship and meet the world again after one month of confinement. I was bored to tears and yearning desperately for my freedom (especially the latter 2 weeks)... I guess I’m the kind of bird that can’t be caged!

Imagine my joy meeting everyone and catching up with all! We really appreciate you and know that there are places you can be at and things needed to be done on a precious Saturday afternoon. But you took time out to drop by and we were also super touched by the initiative our friends decorated the place so nicely and help make everything so special! Thank you all for your love, gifts, time and prayers showered!

Special thanks to Sweetest Memories for the cute mini cupcakes and gift boxes too! We had great feedback from our friends and relatives... their yummy glutinous rice was da bomb! 👍👍

Tian Wei Signature

Vivien Yap

IMG_9446.PNG

Since we decided to do without a confinement lady after delivering Baby Alexa (my mom-in-law who did my confinement when I had Axl, had gone back to work. And since I wanted to direct breastfeed baby even during the nights, we thought no point in hiring a confinement lady), we were relying heavily and counting on Tian Wei Signature to take care of my meals while I focused on taking care of the new baby and spending time with my firstborn.

My top most concern was whether they would take care of me as well as my mom-in-law did, in terms of nourishing me back to health after a major Caesarean surgery. But my concerns were quickly put to rest when I found out that their head chef has acquired over 16 years of experience and is skilled in preparing healthy and tasty meals to suit the needs of a recovering new mummy.

The meals are loaded with nutritious ingredients like various herbs, lemongrass (a good source of vitamins A and C, folate, folic acid, magnesium, zinc, copper, iron, potassium, phosphorus, calcium and manganese), lady’s finger (replenishes blood deficiencies, prevents bone loss and osteoporosis), salmon (contains DHA), black fungus (helps your body get rid of lochia; the bleeding after birth that contains the lining of your womb), cauliflower and spinach (packed with vitamins and fibres) etc etc...

Tian Wei Signature are also pro breastfeeding and their yummy meals include generous amounts of ingredients like fennel, fenugreek, green papaya, ginger and sesame which help increase milk supply!

IMG_9396.JPG
IMG_9390.JPG

Even their staple of carbs are based on healthier whole grains, rotating white rice with Quinoa’s, barleys, brown rice that provide carbohydrates without the extra calories! So even though I ate like a horse and often finishing all that was delivered, I lost a lot of the pregnancy weight simply by eating healthy!

Axl the Big Bro!

Vivien Yap

IMG_7150.PNG

One of the most common questions I’ve been asked is how Axl has been, receiving his new baby sister.

Throughout the pregnancy, we’ve tried preparing him the best we knew how. And there were many times where we felt unsure of how much he understood that he was going to be a big brother soon!

Case in point - Mid way through my pregnancy, he came to pat pat my stomach and pointed to it saying “Baby!”. We were of course happy and proud that he understood what we were telling him. But few hours later, he suddenly pointed to Daddy’s stomach and with that same pat pat, said “Baby!” too. We both burst out laughing, unable to contain ourselves but also realized that it was kinda hard for a two year old to understand fully or even partially. Heck... Even I myself was unsure what to expect life with 2kids was going to be like!

On the delivery day, we arranged for Axl to come by to see us at the hospital after his school. When he reached the ward however, he was quite terrified and kept repeating “Don’t want Axl see doctor” while clinging on to Daddy tightly.

You see... early of this year, he got really sick with a lung infection and had to be hospitalized for 5days. Scans, injections, iv drip and the whole works really traumatized him badly.

So we took our time to assure him that he didn’t need to see doctor and that no one was sick. That Mummy had given birth to baby who is no longer in my belly. When he had calmed down reasonably, we then showed him Baby Alexa who was in her bassinet and introduced them to each other!

Think it prolly only sunk in when we mentioned baby Alexa had a gift for him. Haha.. His cheeky eyes lighting up as he unveiled all his favourite things - the Playdoh, Ribena sweets and a pack of Milo!

When we offered for him to ‘carry’ Mei Mei, he was of course, ecstatic! Here’s also one of the first photos of our family of four.

And from there on, he started taking his big bro duties very seriously. Introducing and pointing to her excitedly to various visitors while chiming with utmost pride ‘A-lex-xa’!

We brought some colour dough to keep him entertained during his time in the hospital and suggested he did it for his sister. So here he is showing her his artwork and telling her all about dragons and their fiery breaths of power... (ok, not true this second part)

Since day 1, this amazing boy has been trying to adapt with the changes the best he knows how. But he definitely misses his Mummy lots. My heart broke when I heard how he cried calling out for me during his sleep time and when he woke multiple times in the early morning. He acted out a little too on the second and third night refusing to go home and wanting to stay with me in the hospital. 😅

2 weeks now since Alexa’s arrival, he does show signs of neediness here and there. Like when given the option of going out to play with some of his favourite people/activities, he’d rather choose to stay home or in his own words “I want Momma”.

I feel it’s coming more from missing me than jealousy of his baby sister though... But i guess it is still kinda early to tell. Nevertheless, we’re prepared to deal with whatever that comes along and will meanwhile simply shower him with as much attention and love we can give.

In spite of all these, there’s definitely no denying his love, fascination and adoration he has for his baby sister. Usually the 1st thing he does when he’s back from school is to run to her crib shouting “Where’s Axl’s Alexa?!”

“TAKE OUT YOUR SHOES 1ST, AXL SIM!!!!”

“TAKE OUT YOUR SHOES 1ST, AXL SIM!!!!”

Constantly kaypoh-ing and telling us when she makes even the slightest whimper. Stopping all he’s doing to ‘help’ us take care of her - be it to ‘pass us a tissue’ or ‘throw her diaper’ etc.

Thank you Axl, for always looking over and looking out for Mei Mei Alexa.... You are an awesome Big Brother! We love you both to the moon and back! 😘

UPDATE:

2nd month into Alexa’s arrival, Axl started to act up... especially when I had to feed her during his sleep time! He would cry and insist I lie down beside him and not want Alexa to drink... Or he would sit with me while waiting for me to finish nursing her. Thus pushing back and messing up his sleep routine. 😓

During the day, he would be fawning all over his little sister tho... Oh well! #mummylife
