Sunshine Aquarium is Japan's first metropolitan high-rise aquarium. Be enchanted in this aquatic environment where you can experience an awakening of all your senses in the center of bustling Tokyo. One can get up-close, unwind and become one with nature... a place for people to connect with other living creatures in an atmosphere of learning and relaxation.
It’s actually my second time there; the 1st being around 8-9years ago when we only had Wayne with us. I remember being fascinated and impressed by their wide variety of interesting creatures. So I was super excited to bring the kiddos there!
You start at the Second Floor where you enter the Waterfront Journey to see a diverse range of living creatures, including fish, invertebrates, waterweeds, frogs, turtles and mammals from waterfronts of rivers, lakes, and coasts of the world.
The oceans cover about 70% of the Earth's surface. So you can imagine the countless fishes, mammals, and invertebrates such as corals, squids, and jellyfishes that live along the shore, in bays and deep in the open seas.... many of which are featured here.
I love how it feels when you are in the Ocean Journey, it’s as if you are walking on the ocean floor. Be awed by the beautiful features like the Coral Reef Ocean, Mysterious Creatures section, Cave Flowers, Dance of the Oriental Butterflyfish, Jellyfish Tunnel, Ninja of the Sea, etc etc...
Less you think you’re done, do not leave Sunshine Aquarium before you visit their outdoor Marine Garden, where the sky, light, water and greenery all come together for you to experience. Here, you see both Penguins in the Sky exhibit and in their natural(recreated) habitat at the ‘Penguins in the Grassland’ exhibit.
Be enthralled by the majestic Sea Lions swimming gracefully around you in the Sunshine Aqua Ring. There is also a Performance Stage where they hold impressive Otter Greeting shows and Sea Lion performances which allows you to be up close and personal with these cuties!
Not forgetting Pelicans Feeding where you see these beautiful creatures opening their gular pouch in a powerful display to eat their prey right above you in the Sky's water tank. A spectacular sight!
